Wild Rockport
A Dark Sky Preserve & Sanctuary
Dark sky areas are ideal for star viewing and nature appreciation. They offer unique opportunities for stargazing and connecting with nature in a way that city lights can't. They provide a sense of awe and wonder, allow for a more intimate relationship with the universe, and offer a chance to experience the beauty of the night sky without the distractions of light pollution.
Light pollution is pervasive globally, affecting a large portion of the world's population and impacting ecosystems. It is estimated that over 80% of the world's population lives under artificial sky glow, meaning the night sky is brighter than it would be naturally. This artificial brightening obscures the stars and affects both human and animal behavior.
